Your Garden’s Last Hoorah

It’s almost that time of year. One morning you’ll hear that the first frost is coming. You’ll rush out to do a last-minute harvest to rescue the supersized zucchini and pull out fistfuls of herbs.
Here’s a refresher on preparing for that end-of-season abundance.

1.    Donate.  Many food pantries welcome donations of fresh produce. Find a pantry near you.

2.    Same tomato next year. If you grew an especially tasty tomato, save your seeds so you can experience that

  same joy next summer

3.    Feed your compost pile. Don’t waste the inedible produce or the leaves, weeds, and grass clippings from your fall clean-up. Use them to make a sumptuous meal for your compost pile
