Earning and Maintaining NAR's Green Designation

  • How do I earn NAR's Green Designation?
Realtors® can earn NAR's Green Designation by completing the following three objectives: Take and pass the two-day Core Course, take and pass one of three one-day Elective Courses, and submit the GREEN Application Form to the Green Resource Council along with proof of completion of your elective course. back to top
  • I'm ready to get started with my coursework. Where do I start?
Start by visiting CourseCalendar.com. There, you can sort available courses by the topic "Green" . From there, you can choose a live lecture or online course, depending on which is more convenient for you. You can take the Core Course first, or the elective course; it's up to you. Please remember, however, that the Core Course and the elective course must be taken within one year of each other to be counted toward NAR's Green Designation. back to top
  • I want to take a live lecture course, but my state isn't listed on CourseCalendar.com!
Classroom courses are offered through the REBAC network of licensed course providers, which includes REALTOR® associations, proprietary schools, and national franchises. Unfortunately, we do not currently have course offerings in each state. However, more and more instructors are being certified to teach NAR's Green Designation courses, and more and more course providers are signing up to host the courses. Please be patient, and keep checking CourseCalendar.com – more course offerings are added each week! back to top
  • Are NAR's Green Designation courses available online?
Presently, only our Residential elective course is available online. You can access this online course through CourseCalendar.com. Our Core Course should be available online in early 2009- please keep checking our website, GreenREsourceCouncil.org, for updates! back to top
  • How much are the courses?
The 12-hour Core Course's suggested retail price is $295, and the 6- hour elective courses' suggested retail price is $125. Please check with your course provider to determine if any discounts apply. back to top
  • What are the elective course topics?
Elective course topics include Residential Real Estate, Commercial Real Estate, and Property Management. You can take as many of the elective courses as you like, but you are only required to complete one to earn NAR's Green Designation. back to top
  • Why can't I find the Commercial Real Estate or Property Management elective courses on CourseCalendar.com?
We are still working with a team of experts and industry professionals on the finishing touches to the best possible curriculum we can offer for these courses. These courses will be completed in the coming months – please keep checking our website, GreenREsourceCouncil.org, for updates! back to top
  • I purchased my elective course online – how long do I have to complete it?
You have six months from the time of purchase to complete your online elective course. In that time, you may log in and out of your account as many times as you like, and complete the course when it is convenient for you. back to top
  • Does NAR recognize any other certification or designation programs related to green properties and practices?
NAR's Green Designation is the only one of its kind recognized by the National Association of REALTORS®. back to top
  • I have substantial education and/or experience in green real estate and green building. Can I test out of all the educational requirements of NAR's Green Designation?
While we are thrilled so many individuals bring considerable education and experience as prospective students for NAR's Green Designation program, it is not possible to test out of all the educational requirements of the program. We need to guarantee that everyone who earns NAR's Green Designation and distinguishes himself or herself as a NAR Green Designee has the same core or baseline education from the National Association of REALTORS®. As you know, NAR's Green Designation is the only training program recognized and endorsed by the NAR. It is therefore essential that all students complete course training from the NAR. back to top
